Our Teachers:
McLean High School’s Early Childhood Careers Munchkin Preschool program provides high school students an opportunity to prepare for continuing education leading to careers in various early childhood fields in childcare settings, as well as medical, social services, and education professions. Under the direction of the Preschool Director, student-teachers focus on the planning, organizing, and the engagement of preschool age children in meaningful play-and-learning activities promoting cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
Our Preschool:
McLean Munchkins Preschool provides a program of learning activities for children ages three- to five-years-old in a one-to-one student teacher-to-child nurturing environment. The Munchkin Preschool program at McLean High School is offered through the Early Childhood Careers (ECC) program and is part of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) curriculum. The preschool program has been integrated to provide a foundation of developmentally appropriate learning experiences that prepare preschool students for success in kindergarten and beyond. The curriculum and instruction focus on school-readiness activities intended to enhance physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of preschool age children. Preschool students engage in child-led and teacher-guided activities which nurtures them while articulating the knowledge and demonstrating the skills young children need to be successful as they advance in grade level.
